God’s Plan for You

…Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17) Belief alone does not constitute salvation, “Even the demons believe-and tremble!” (James 2:19)  “What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him...Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” (James 2:14-17)

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23) “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” (Romans 5:8-9) For the wages of sin is death, but the GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

What Must I Do to be Saved?

The question implies that in order to obtain salvation, we MUST do something! Salvation is the redemption of one’s soul from sin and its consequences, to inherit eternal life. It requires both personal effort and divine action. This question is of upmost importance and urgency for it concerns not only our life here and now, but forever after.

This same form of questioning is repeated throughout scripture. The Philippian jailer asked the question, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30)  Again on the day of Pentecost; “Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, ‘Men and brethren, what shall we do?’” (Acts 2:37)

The Answer is in God’s Word

There are steps to obtain salvation that can only be found in God’s Word, the Bible. One must be taught, baptized, and continually taught. (Matthew28:19-20)

Jesus says that we must be taught The Gospel, believe it, and be baptized in order to be saved. (Mark 16:15-16)

This Gospel is the “power of God unto (not into) salvation.” It was made available to the Jews (Israelites) first, and then to everyone else who was to be called out. (Romans 1:16)

The Gospel is the foundation of our faith. Paul received this truth from Christ Himself: how Christ came to this Earth and was sacrificed for our sins (His Death and Burial), and how He was raised to the right hand of God (His Resurrection). (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

The Gospel: the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, was preached for the first time to the Jews on the day of Pentecost. After being cut to the heart, and asking “What shall we do?” Peter exclaimed, “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”, and the Lord added about three thousand souls who believed and were baptized, to His Kingdom that SAME day. (Acts 2:22-41)

Repentance takes place in the heart. It comes after believing that Christ was sacrificed for OUR sins. It means to turn from your sins and turn to God. (Acts 14:15) “…But unless you repent you will all likewise perish.” (Luke 13:3) Peter preached, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out…” (Acts 3:19)

Confess “In the name of Jesus Christ” before men. “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto (not into) salvation.” (Romans 10:10)

Why Delay?

The answer to the question, “What must I do to be Saved?”, has been proven in the Word of God, time after time. Now we know that we MUST be taught and believe the Gospel of Christ; (His Death, Burial, and Resurrection). We MUST repent and confess that Jesus is the Christ, and then we MUST be baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of our sins to receive the sacrificial GIFT of salvation. (Romans 6:1-5) What is stopping YOU from obtaining this GIFT? (Acts 22:16)

Those Christians in the first century were taught the Gospel of Christ. They were baptized based on their belief in the Gospel, and then they were continually taught the Apostles teaching.  (Acts 2:42)

“Be FAITHFUL until death, and I will give you the crown of life.” (Revelations 2:10b)
