The Ancient of Days
I have an extreme interest in all things space related. I am impressed by SpaceX advanced by Elon Musk and all of man’s attempts to reach the stars. I love science fiction movies from Star Trek to Star Wars. I’ve been able to find some great science fiction audio novels. Some of the best science fiction is in audio form. It allows you to use your imagination to paint the image of things unseen and of sights that are unobtainable.
Although I have this strong interest in science fiction and in improbable feats by man in time and in the descriptions of alternate dimensions, it has never competed or even come close to deterring my faith in the one and only Jehovah God, the Ancient of Days. In fact, science fact and not fiction has bolstered my faith knowing that my God is immensely powerful to have created things so far out of man’s reach and beyond man’s understanding. I especially love the descriptive dreams of Daniel when he describes the ancient of Days (Daniel 7:9,10). I can see the throne of fiery flames and the thousands and ten thousand times ten thousand that stood before the Ancient of days. That is our GOD!
After amassing a glimpse of what my limited mind can comprehend and devise of the power and nature of our God, I am humbled for the moment that I make this realization and for the moments that I can maintain this understanding that our God is greater than I could ever perceive in this physical body and I am unable to contain a full understanding of the height, length, depth and breadth of God.
With my trivial grasp of the power of God, I immediately ask the question, “what is man that you are mindful of him?”
- You have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings (ESV) (Psalms 8:4:5)
- Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. (ESV) (Psalms 144:4)
- that you set your heart on him (Job17:7)
I know that he loves us (John 3:16). I know that in the light of this pandemic and daily anxieties (Philippians 4:6) that we can often get caught up in the microscopic (in comparison) itemized issues of day to day living. Our concerns are legitimate concerns of losing our jobs in layoffs, illness contracting the virus, lack of work, food, money, and access to loved ones.
Here is our encouragement! I can look up in the North Carolina sky at night and attempt to peer as far as my eyes will allow. I can look across the broad expanse of blue-black sky dotted with the evidence of other stars created by our God and contend with my understanding of the enormity of it all! I spot the brightest star in the night sky as the chill of nightfall raises the hairs on my arms or is it the knowledge that I am like Job “of small account” (Job 40:4). Our God is greater than all of our concerns!
Can you see it? Can you see the day when the meeting bans are lifted? Can see people lining up at the door of the meeting house, pressing to enter? Can you see the joy on our faces when we get to hug one another and greet each other with a Holy kiss? Can you anticipate the time when we can shout AMEN to the preacher overcome by his gratitude for the cries of agreement? Can you see the Ancient of Days as you look into that cool night sky and His creation? Can you see the thousands of thousands singing before our God?
